About Us

Lightyear Entertainment, headquartered in Los Angeles CA, is a content-distribution entity, engaged in two primary businesses: (i) the distribution of independent motion pictures on DVD, Video On Demand, and through Digital Distribution; and (ii) the distribution of music and music video programs on CD, DVD, and through Digital Distribution.

Lightyear's independent film business in North America, is now conducted through Vivendi/Universal Distribution.  After 13 years with Warner Home Video, Lightyear sought out a distributor that would be focused on independent films and who would give more priority to Lightyear’s releases, and is pleased to announce a new, long-term distribution agreement with Vivendi/Universal.  Lightyear currently releases an average of 2-3 films per month through Vivendi.

Lightyear's music business in North America is conducted through Caroline/EMI, which now utilizes the EMI Music Marketing Sales Force, the same sales force that sells the Capitol and Virgin labels.

Internationally, Lightyear maintains long-term relationships with in-akustik in Germany, JVC/SKD in Japan, Wienerworld in the UK, NBD Television in London, and other indie distribution companies around the globe.

Now in its 21st Anniversary year, Lightyear has successfully emerged as a multi-layered entertainment company, working in a wide variety of film and music genres.

Lightyear is owned and managed by Arnie Holland, a 35-year industry veteran.  With expertise in film, music, television and video, Holland was one of the original pioneers that built the home video business.
Educated at the Wharton School of Finance and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Holland wrote his law school thesis in 1973 about the future legal problems of the not-yet-existing home video business.  He later helped establish standards and guidelines for clearing music for video programming, and helped convince movie studios like Warner Bros. and Disney that sell-through would eventually be more lucrative than rental.

Before Lightyear, Holland spent 7 years at Capitol Records in Hollywood, and 7 years at RCA in New York.  Among his accomplishments at RCA was co-production of the Jane Fonda Workout series, launched in 1982, which revolutionized the sell-through home video market.   Lightyear is still a partner in 14 Jane Fonda titles.

Lightyear had its origins in a management buyout of RCA Video Productions, Inc. shortly after RCA was sold to General Electric.
