Rock's greatest
storyteller made his feature film directorial debut with this strikingly
original, brilliant blend of drama and music. Davies, the longtime leader/composer
of the Kinks, has created a watershed event in the motion picture art
form; a film with virtually no dialogue, told with lyrics so clear,
vivid, and dramatic that the viewer is kept pinned to the screen. Not
a music video, this is a real movie, which tells a story about an Everyman
kind of guy (the Well Respected Man?) whose daughter has left home and
is missing. Ken Colley (The Empire Strikes Back) stars as the father
who may be accused of rape and starts going nuts as the pressure mounts.
Also starring Tim Roth in an early role, and of course featuring Davies'
original music throughout. |
