St. Augustine-based guitarist/songwriter Rick Levy has spent six
years listening to President George W. Bush.
He finally snapped and wrote a song. And then he wrote more songs.
Directed at No. 1 Good-Ol’ Boy himself: George “Dubya”
Bush, The Bushwhackers is the twisted brainchild of Levy and a real
paradox. The music on this specially priced EP is traditional country
which is usually associated with more of a conservative right wing
kind of thing. The lyrics are exactly the opposite. A funny yet potent
mix.
Beatin’ Round The Bushwill certainly ruffle conservative feathers
because the truth hurts, even in a beer-swillin’, knee slappin’
kinda way. It is a politically incorrect, irreverent, lighthearted
musical trip into Dubya’s world.
Rick Levy has carved out a nice career for himself as a musical director
for artists such as Tommy Roe and Jay and the Techniques, and as a
performer in bands like The Limits and Herman’s Hermits. His
latest musical endeavor, The Bushwhackers is a studio group with the
White House directly in its crosshairs.
And Levy says there’s more where that came from.
