The fourth album from BeatleJazz is consistent with the group’s
three prior releases in concept and vision, presenting inventive jazz
arrangements of the most beloved music of the 20th Century. Brian
Melvin and Dave Kikoski create a beautiful new standard for the music
of The Beatles.
The basic trio consists of Brian, Dave and Larry Grenadier. Again,
the trio has enlisted a little help from their friends, who happen
to be some of the most respected names in jazz, and whose stellar
contributions help lift this CD to another level. The unparalleled
Toots Thielemans (harmonica), celebrated West African Verve artist
Richard Bona (bass and vocals) and esteemed Blue Note artist Joe Lovano
(saxophone) all provide memorable guest performances.
The repertoire choices are outstanding. The results are totally refreshing,
full of musical virtuosity, but remaining true to the essence of each
song.
Expect jazz radio to embrace it, to a Top 10 level as with the three
prior BeatleJazz albums. Expect the critics to endorse it. Each BeatleJazz
release is certainly “getting better all the time” and
this fourth installment is no exception. It is essential listening
for Beatles and jazz fans alike.
