| There is no one in the pop
world quite like LEE OSKAR. His unique role as founding member for the pioneer Funk/Jazz
group WAR, won him international renown and 37 Gold & Platinum records. Lee's
signature harp solos help define the WAR sound from the band's beginning in 1969, adding
dashes of color to their R&B/Jazz/Rock/Funk & Latin influences. Upon leaving WAR,
Lee want on to create the Lee Oskar Harmonica Company. Now, with an immensely successful
company, Lee has turned his focus back to his solo career & reintroduces the world to
his crossover sound. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Lee grew up listening to Danish radio. A family friend gave him his first harmonica at the age of 6. He sites Ray Charles as his biggest influence at that time. As far as his take on himself today Lee say's " My playing has become more aggressive over the years. In the beginning my role was playing horn lines. Today it's evolved to the point where I'm playing the lead instrument." This return to a solo career & the debut Oskar release for Zebra So Much In Love was recorded at Chick Coreas' Mad Hatter Studios and Headstrong Studios in L.A. Oskars' six-piece group on this disc consists of equally talented players on sax, keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and percussion. The superb collective personality of the group results in layers and layers of rhythm and textures, weaving a very unusual, colorful and unforgettable musical tapestry. The harp/sax horn section (pioneered by Oskar during his years with WAR, and which became the trademark sound heard on many of War's hits), creates an exciting fusion-sometimes harmonizing in tight cohesion, sometimes bouncing off each other, but always complimentary and original. |
