Details

Marvin Gaye is unquestionably one of the most important recording artists of our time. In addition to being a masterful vocalist and performer, he wrote a large number of songs that became pop/R&B classics. One of the most gifted, visionary, and enduring talents ever put forward by the Motown hit machine, Marvin Gaye blazed the trail for the continued evolution of popular black music. Moving from lean, powerful R&B to stylish, sophisticated soul to finally arrive at an intensely political and personal form of artistic selfexpression, his Grammy winning work not only redefined soul music as a creative force but also expanded its impact as an agent for social change.

Legend, Live & Forever contains newly recorded versions of Marvin Gaye’s rendition of The Lord’s Prayer, the first single, as well as newly discovered historical recordings captured live in Europe, The United States and Japan. The Marvin Gaye Orchestra features percussionists Pete “Coke” Escovedo and his daughter Sheila E., as well as a soul-jazz aggregation of superb musicians and singers. The American tour ended in LA and would become Gaye’s last encore as he passed away a year later.

Marvin Gaye is a Singer, Composer, Producer, Arranger, Pianist, Drummer, Consummate Performer, Spiritualist, Idealist, Sensualist, Humanist and Social Warrior. He runs the gauntlet of emotions as he tears through classics as diverse as What’s Going On, Let’s Get It On, an extended version of Sexual Healing and two new versions of The Lord’s Prayer. The listener is there bearing witness to Marvin Gaye... Legend, Live & Forever!
